There's a favorites view to help you get to the most important notes. Finding access your notes gets easier with other improvements as well. There's a new folder system where you can nest folders to organize your notes easier. With this new update, GoodNotes has added additional file management tools. It's still plastic on glass, but in every way they can improve on those mediums, they have.

I spent some time with the GoodNotes team at WWDC last year, and they explained how much time they had put into making the app feel more like writing on paper, and it shows. You can even see how the ink changes as you lift the Apple Pencil off the screen. This new version only increases their lead. I have always felt that GoodNotes had the most natural writing for the iPad. The best thing about the new version is the improved ink engine. My notes are also quite text/typing heavy, so GoodNotes doesn't work quite as well for me as it is more handwriting based. There is a pile of applications that claim to turn your iPad into a virtual notebook but none of them, in my opinion, do that as good as GoodNotes, which just released version 5. I find the iPad app nicer to use, but the MacOS app is decent enough for me to be able to easily edit things on it so I'm glad I have it.įor what it's worth - other note apps I've tried out are Evernote (I really like it but it doesn't have enough of an advantage over the other apps that I'd subscribe to it) and OneNote (nice, very good integration between iPad/iPhone/Mac, but don't like the infinite scrolling canvas and text boxes).
#How to use goodnotes 5 on ipad how to
last night I was trying to find out how to edit the font which took me a while. Although certain things are a bit harder to find in this app - e.g. MacOS Notability app - good for typing, cutting/pasting images from other places, moving pages around in a note. Currently using a workaround where I have a B5 sized page template that I import to each note and use, but a bit annoying that I need to do this!

Annoying if like me you like to separate sections of a note by starting a new page - if I start a note on my iPad then move to my Mac to edit it the entire page shifts. Notability wise - one thing about using it on more than one device is that if you use the default page sizes, the page sizes change between iPad/iPhone/Mac. Though I only downloaded GoodNotes yesterday to give it a try (very limited experience with it) and think I'll be sticking with Notability.
